Now accepting submissions for Wingword Poetry Prize—India’s favourite online competition.

Wingword award 8 Lakh Rupees in prizes each year. Poets of all styles are celebrated, and prizes also include ways to support poets’ development: book publishing, media interviews and public recognition.

Prizes: ₹50,000 first prize, ₹30,000 second prize, ₹20,000 third prize and ₹10,000 for top ten winners.

OUR MISSION:

Our aim is to create a platform that supports and encourages creativity among Indians. Whether you are from a big city or a small town of India—if poetry is your chosen medium of expression, then this competition is for you.

We conduct the Wingword Competition, empowering emerging poets with financial reward along with the opportunity for their works to be published and distributed.

Through this competition we have brought attention to the works of new poets who otherwise don’t have a chance to showcase their talent. New opportunities have opened up for our past winners and Wingword’s constant support has pushed their literary careers to new heights. Some of our notable winners are Nandana Dev Sen, Bibhusha Rai, Dr. Neal Hall, Vancouver Shullai, Eshna Sharma, Ilina Sinha.

Rules

1. Only Indian citizens and persons of Indian origin are eligible to enter.

2. The competition is open to anyone who is 14 years old and above. 

3. Poems must be the original work of the author, and must not have been created using AI.

4. We accept poems written in English or Hindi.

5. Any length and style of poetry is welcome.

6. Poems on any subject are accepted. Our poets are encouraged to take inspiration from wherever they may find it.

7. Entry fee is INR 1000 for one poem, INR 2000 for three poems and INR 3000 for five poems.

8. We encourage participants to submit more poems, as it increases the likelihood of winning. Each poem is considered as an individual entry.

9. Beginners are encouraged to participate.

10. This is an online writing competition. Performance is not required anywhere. Submission has to be made online through our website.

11. Early deadline is October 31st (Friday) at 11.59 PM. Results will be declared in March 2026.

Judging Criteria

Your poems will be scored on the basis of originality of thought, creativity and style. We are not looking for correct grammar, rhyme scheme or complex words.

The poems should make the reader deeply think about the subject and evoke emotions such as surprise, hope, joy or even sadness and anger.
